Played some more Awakening today, and Alim surprised me yet again by sending Velanna away — he didn’t trust her reasons for wanting to become a Warden. How foolish, in his mind, to bet her life on the off chance that the ability to sense Darkspawn would lead her…
So it’s kinda like:
Anders: Yeah sure, you seem nice and I could use a mage.
Nathaniel: Eh, you look more useful out of bars than behind them.
Velanna: Hmm…There’s something wrong with you.
Ugh, Tumblr ate half of my last response. Anyway, I think this was more or less his thought process:
Anders: If I don’t conscript you, your life is forfeit: you’ll be taken back to the Tower and either executed or made Tranquil. I remember you, though I didn’t know you well, and I wouldn’t wish either fate on you. You’re a talented mage and would be an asset to the Wardens, of which I need more. Recruited.
Nathaniel: If I don’t conscript you, your life is forfeit. I can’t let you go, because you might come after me again. You’re a talented fighter and would be an asset to the Wardens, of which I still need more. I might have to watch my back for awhile, but I think it’s worth the risk. Recruited.
Velanna: If I don’t accept your request to join the Wardens, you can just leave. In theory I ought to haul you in to face justice, but your crimes were based on a misunderstanding, so I’m reluctant to force the issue. You’re a talented mage and would be an asset to the Wardens… if I can trust you to actually follow my orders and not go running off after your sister again. I don’t think I can trust you to do that. Not recruited.
